I’m finding this is a really good thing to think about and consider answering for yourself.
I guess the question starts with; what do you need inspiration for?
- solving a problem
- generating a new idea
- a song
- writing
- plus a whole list of things
Think about 1-2 areas you currently need or sometimes lack inspiration. Now think back to a time when you were inspired in that area. What were you doing? What was happening around you? Can you recreate that?
For me the areas I look for inspiration in are writing and designing.
My writing ideas come when I’m reading.
My fashion design ideas come from seeing stylish people wearing their clothes well. Strangely enough, I don’t typically get inspired from shops (unless it’s a unique boutique that matches my style, I sometimes find these around the UK and in Europe). I also get inspired to design from fabric, looking at the potential of what it can be. (So I like clothes before they’re made and after they’ve been brought).
So I’m inspired by the potential of fabric and also by seeing clothing fulfill it’s purpose. The right design, in the right fabric, on the right person, at the right time can bring confidence to the wearer and open up incredible opportunities.
Just some food for thought today!
