Enjoy the journey don’t endure the journey

I read an email yesterday from a Fitness Bootcamp company I’ve worked with before. They talked about not letting the destination (goal weight) be what you look forward to enjoying but to enjoy the momentum on the way to the goal.

This stuck with me. I thought about keeping the email (empty inbox goals) but I decided to delete it (cause if I filed it I’d probably never read it again anyway – just being honest). Why did I delete it, because I knew the message stuck! (So much so that I’m blogging about it today).

It’s so important to enjoy the journey!

– Enjoy the fact that your mind is changing about yourself and food and you’re exercising everyday
– Enjoy the time you and your fiancé get to spend together planning your wedding day
– Enjoy every positive step you take in the direction of your goal
– Enjoy (insert here, whatever it is you’re doing on the way to where you’re going)

Because the GOAL is what? A score, a day (wedding day), an achievement (weight goal). The joys last for a varied amount of time, a few minutes, a few days, a month… It peaks, then subsides, then what… You move onto the next thing. It can be almost deflating. But if you’ve enjoyed (not endured) the journey, you have become a richer, happier person on your way to your goal.

How bad do you want it?

I’ve wanted to give up so many times!

The year after I stuck with it, I was flooded with business. Most of these brand new clients told me they saw me a year ago! Imagine if I quit!

Is the desire to give up:
1) a sign to change direction or
2) a gut check that’s saying “don’t you dare quit now”.

Just like that story; please don’t quit digging 3 foot from gold!

Products following you everywhere you go online

How do you feel about products following you everywhere you go online?

My hubby hates it! I think it’s great… most of the time. Like today, I checkout a bunch a products; dresses, suits, coats that I was so inspired by and loved. They’re popping up everywhere now and I really don’t mind.

Times when I’m not so keen is when I’m searching for gifts for my teenage godson or a new baby gift, then baby products or tracksuit are following me… not so nice.

I guess I have time for it and I appreciate it because I’m a marketer and trying to learn from what I see and how it makes me and others feel.

What do you think? How do these ads make you feel? Comment below, I’d love to hear.

Life in your years

As you grow older. Embrace it. Own it.
Make sure you have life in your years and not just years in your life!
Stay in your lane and measure yourself against your own measuring stick.
Against someone else your life can look empty in comparison. But when you look at your life from your perspective, environment, goals etc you could be doing pretty incredible! Right on track.
Run your race. Not someone else’s!

Where do you get inspired?

I’m finding this is a really good thing to think about and consider answering for yourself.

I guess the question starts with; what do you need inspiration for?

  • solving a problem
  • generating a new idea
  • a song
  • writing
  • plus a whole list of things

Think about 1-2 areas you currently need or sometimes lack inspiration. Now think back to a time when you were inspired in that area. What were you doing? What was happening around you? Can you recreate that?
For me the areas I look for inspiration in are writing and designing.
My writing ideas come when I’m reading.
My fashion design ideas come from seeing stylish people wearing their clothes well. Strangely enough, I don’t typically get inspired from shops (unless it’s a unique boutique that matches my style, I sometimes find these around the UK and in Europe). I also get inspired to design from fabric, looking at the potential of what it can be. (So I like clothes before they’re made and after they’ve been brought).
So I’m inspired by the potential of fabric and also by seeing clothing fulfill it’s purpose. The right design, in the right fabric, on the right person, at the right time can bring confidence to the wearer and open up incredible opportunities.
Just some food for thought today!

When inspiration strikes go toilet!!

The thought just hit me!

Right now, I’m on a bus in China. I have a busy day ahead and I’m driving through places I’ve never seen before and my eyes are having a feast but… inspiration has struck!! Yes right now. Middle of a fantastic bus ride, I just want to enjoy but my mind is being flooded.
So I’ve been journalling furiously between glances at the sights. I need to write this and I need to write it NOW. Fully. Sometimes you can go back and fill out the bulletpoints but sometimes the inspiration is so thick and rich that you need to capture it like right there and then, like a hunter!!
I’ve already written what was inspiring me at the time. This writing captures the moment I just had and how it felt.
I’m writing it now because my heart is still pounding. Making a note for myself later will provide the information but may lack the intensity of the emotions, still racing through my body.

So, when you want to go to the toilet… you need to go to the toilet, so you go to the toilet. Obviously! My point is that you honour what your body’s need in that moment (otherwise your body will embarrass you!) So when inspiration strikes, treat it with some respect! Even if you have to excuse yourself and go to (I’m going to be American for a second) the Rest Room and take 5! Capture that thought, idea, blog, email, song, poem, Word from the Lord. Because, you may go back for it later and what remains isn’t as good and what was
Why now??

Do you ever wonder that. Sometimes, the inspiration hits at the most inappropriate time!

The negative:

Is it because I’m here 👎

It’s a test, it’s a distraction, nice idea but let me carry on with my shower, conversation (or in my case sightseeing).

or

The Positive:

Is it because I’m HERE👍

This actual moment, place, time, all rolled into one to cause me to think a certain way, connect with that moment of inspiration and BOOM!!!

This plus that and the other; made this moment so. I have a duty to capture it!!

That one thought could be the key that unlocked the gateway to everything I’ve been hoping for.

What you know, that you THINK is right. Is stalling your potential BIG TIME

“I think rich people are tight, stingy and (fill in the blank)”
If you think this (or “know” this) and you’re trying to improve your life financially…. that thought, is what is slowing you down. It might seem unrelated. You may not even be aware you think that but it’s the thought, mindset, stronghold, garrison, fortified place STANDING between you and your goal, dream and/or desire!
What if you want to succeed in a certain area of your life and you admire the famous person who is succeeding in that area but the person you know who’s making great strides in that area or doing incredibly well, that person you resent, you can’t stand!! You say to yourself, you don’t even know why! It could be in the area of marriage, parenting, a career, weight loss or business. Your thought about that person close to you is the thought, mindset, stronghold, garrison, fortified place STANDING between you and your goal, dream and/or desire! (Yeah I said it again cause you need to hear this!!)
I’m in tears as I write this (on a bus in China – hey that statement made me smile). This is so very powerful.
My prayer today, join me;

“Lord, search me. Search my thoughts. What am I thinking about a person, situation, life, even about you, that’s wrong? Search my thoughts. Lead me. Guide me. Teach me. Bring down every thought, mindset, stronghold, garrison, fortified place STANDING between me and my purpose, goals, dreams and desires of mine and your heart!
Lord, over the coming hours, days, weeks, months and even years, soften my heart to hear your correction of my incorrect thoughts. Help me to change and let the change be permanent.
Change me, by the newal of my mind, thought by thought! Amen”

Dream Your Dream

Sometimes you need to take time out to JUST DREAM.
Get into a private, quite space and answer the questions you need to answer and think about and Prost about. The one you can’t quite focus on when there are distraction.

  • What are my priorities?
  • What are my top goals?
  • Where do I see myself?
  • What’s my potential?
  • What’s holding me back?

Walt Disney said if you can dream it, you can have it. Question is…. do you REALLY want it?

Go small then go home

It’s the small consistent, quite, private, boring, routine and seemingly mundane actions that later heap huge success!!!

The main saying is “go hard or go home” I say “Go small then go home”.

I’m currently reading this book “The One Thing” and it’s giving me life!!
It’s all about getting focused, honing in on ONE thing.
I’m a big advocate of FOCUS. This year I’ve been reading lots of books on goal setting and vision boards, it’s really got me thinking and dreaming again. Right now though, I’m feeing so much pressure from trying to push for all these goals and dreams it’s a lot!!
So, I’m going to FOCUS. Focus on the one goal out of the many that will impact everything else when achieved. This is settling to my mind!
Try focusing on 10 things at once, impossible. Focus on one thing and pour your energy into making hat happen. You’ll do it. You’ll find your way around obstacles and when you tick that goal OFF. You can move on.
My top tips;

  • Have priorities in life – what’s important too you?
  • Set goals that line up with your priorities – 5 to 10 goals that you feel like you could achieve in the next 6-18months.
  • Prioritize your goals to your top 3 and even a Push Goal – that ONE goal that if achieved would impact the rest.
  • Create a schedule based on the above and ensure you get balance across all areas of your life. Schedule your typical week, use colours so you can see where your time is going and spot any imbalances.
  • Small things each day can make a massive impact. 30mins of exercise each day doesn’t sound like much but after a while of focused, consistent effort it’s has the…
  • Compound Effect – another brilliant book, just saying. Check it out.
  • When you’ve done this you can – Go home.

The “go hard or go home” gives the going home a negotiate connotation. As though, you’re weak so go home. I say, “going home” means I’ve worked hard, now I deserve my rest. I have a balanced life now I can go and be with my family and chill, read, sleep and not feel guilty.
Small, focused, consistent actions each day and then go home and chill.
